Day 2: Addis Ababa – Debre Libanos – back to Addis Ababa (132 km one way)

After breakfast, we leave Addis Ababa and journey approximately 2.5 hours north to Debre Libanos. Debre Libanos is home to one of Ethiopia's most important monasteries, which boasts a fascinating museum showcasing a vast collection of antique items from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. We also take a leisurely walk to the renowned "Portuguese Bridge," offering a breathtaking view of the expansive canyon. The origins of the bridge are debated, with some suggesting it was built in the 19th century by Emperor Menelik's uncle, while others attribute it to the Portuguese conquest of Ethiopia in the 16th century. Crossing the bridge, we are treated to a mesmerizing 60-meter waterfall and the opportunity to spot various bird species, particularly predatory birds and the rare Gelada monkeys. Returning to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon, you are warmly invited to a farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant, featuring authentic cuisine, cultural performances, and music. Following the festivities, we will escort you back to your reserved hotel.
